Photo Restoration Service

Old photographs carry something that cannot be recreated: the specific light of a specific moment, captured on a day that is now part of the irretrievable past. When those photographs are damaged, faded, torn, or worn down by time, the moment they captured risks being lost forever. Photo restoration brings that moment back to clarity, removing what time has done without touching the authenticity of the original.

Our photo restoration service professionally restores damaged, faded, torn, stained, water-damaged, and deteriorated photographs, bringing clarity, colour, and detail back to images compromised by time, handling, or environmental damage. We work with scanned originals and digital photographs of any age, format, and condition.

Photo restoration is both a technical and an artistic discipline. It requires the skill to remove damage convincingly, the judgment to reconstruct missing detail plausibly, and the sensitivity to work with images that are irreplaceable and deeply personal. We approach every project with the respect the original photograph deserves and the care its significance demands.

We restore every photograph type: black and white prints, colour photographs, slides, negatives, daguerreotypes, and any format that can be digitised. We address every damage type, including tears, scratches, water staining, foxing, fading, colour shift, mould, missing areas, and any combination of deterioration affecting your original.

However, you need a single treasured family portrait restored or an entire collection, our restoration team brings the same precision, the same care, and the same sensitivity to every project we take on.

Great photo restoration is invisible. The viewer sees only the photograph as it was, not the work that brought it back. We remove damage with the technical precision and artistic judgment to work within the visual language of the original, matching tones, textures, and grain accurately, and rebuilding missing detail in a way that feels true to the original rather than obviously added.

Colour photographs fade over time. The dyes that create colour in prints break down at different rates, causing uneven fading and colour casts that get worse with each passing decade. We bring that colour back, correcting shifts and restoring the saturation and tonal balance the photograph had when it was first printed.

Tears, missing corners, water damage, mould, and mechanical damage can destroy parts of an image entirely, leaving areas that must be reconstructed rather than simply repaired. We rebuild missing detail by drawing on reference information from the surrounding image, matching tones, textures, and content patterns to produce results that are visually consistent with the original photograph and as true to what was there as the available evidence allows.

Every restored photograph is delivered as a high-resolution digital file, with enough resolution to print at any reasonable size, and in a format suited for long-term digital archiving. We can also prepare restored images for specific print sizes on request, making sure the restoration is optimised for your intended output and ready to frame, share, and preserve for generations to come.

See Different Types Of Photo
Restoration
Services

Photo restoration covers a wide range of specialist techniques, each designed for a different type of damage, a different photograph format, and a different restoration outcome. Explore the different types of photo restoration below and discover which approach is most appropriate for your specific photographs and your restoration requirements.

old photo restoration service

Old Photo Restoration

Old photographs hold a unique kind of value, both historically and personally, but time takes its toll. Fading, yellowing, foxing, and cracking slowly wear away at the image. Our photo restoration service brings vintage and antique photographs back to life, addressing the specific damage that comes with age while keeping the authentic look and feel of the original print.

damaged photo restoration service

Damaged Photo Restoration

Physically damaged photographs, whether torn, creased, scratched, or worn from surface abrasion, need reconstruction just as much as correction. Our damaged photo restoration addresses every type of physical damage, rebuilding missing areas, removing surface marks, and bringing each image back to the best possible standard the original condition allows.

faded photo restoration service

Faded Photo Restoration

Faded photographs lose the tonal contrast and colour vibrancy that once made them striking, leaving images that look washed out, flat, and far removed from the original scene. Our faded photo restoration brings back lost tone, contrast, and colour saturation, returning your photographs to the visual quality they had when they were first printed and the moment they captured was still fresh.

water-damaged photo restoration service

Water-Damaged Photo Restoration

Water damage creates some of the most complex and challenging restoration problems in photography, from tide marks and staining to emulsion lifting and mould growth caused by prolonged moisture exposure. Our water-damaged photo restoration addresses every aspect of this damage, removing stains, correcting colour casts, reconstructing affected areas, and bringing damaged photographs back to a visually coherent, professionally usable condition.

black & white photo restoration service

Black & White Photo Restoration

Black and white photographs age in their own distinct ways, and restoring them requires techniques that respect the visual language of monochrome imagery. Our restoration service corrects fading, removes damage, and rebuilds missing areas while preserving the tonal depth, grain structure, and authentic character that make vintage black and white photography so enduringly beautiful.

colour photo restoration service

Colour Photo Restoration

Colour photographs are especially vulnerable to fading and colour shift over time. Different dye layers break down at different rates, producing increasingly inaccurate colour casts with each passing decade. Our colour photo restoration corrects these faded and shifted tones, restoring the original balance and saturation of every photograph so the final image accurately reflects the scene as it looked when the photo was taken.

torn photo restoration service

Torn Photo Restoration Service

A torn photograph is one of the most painful forms of photo damage because the tear cuts right through the image, the people, and the moments captured in it. Our torn photo restoration service fixes tears of every kind, from clean breaks along a single line to complex damage with missing pieces, carefully rebuilding the image and returning a complete, natural-looking photograph that shows no sign of what it went through.

scratch & crease photo restoration service

Scratch & Crease Restoration

Scratches and creases are some of the most common types of photo damage, caused by rough handling, improper storage, or the natural fragility of aging photographic paper. Our scratch and crease restoration removes surface marks of any severity from photographic prints, rebuilding the image underneath and leaving you with a photo where the damage is completely gone, and the original image is fully restored.

photo colourisation service

Photo Colourisation Service

Black and white photographs capture moments with extraordinary tonal richness, but colour adds a sense of immediacy and human connection that monochrome simply cannot. Our photo colourisation service applies historically accurate, research-informed colour to black and white images, producing results that feel authentic and believable rather than processed, bringing the subjects, clothing, and environments of historical photographs to life for modern viewers.

photo restoration service

Historical Photo Restoration

Historical photographs are primary source documents, and restoring them takes both technical skill and historical knowledge. Our historical photo restoration handles photographs of significant historical value, applying techniques suited to the photographic process and period of each original, delivering results that meet archival and publication standards for historical research and cultural heritage preservation.

Photo Restoration FAQs

Have questions about our photo restoration service? We've answered the most common ones below so you can get started with confidence.

We restore photographs from all types of damage: tears, creases, scratches, water damage, foxing, fading, colour shift, yellowing, missing areas, ink stains, and combinations of multiple damage types. Restorability depends on the severity and type of damage, and we assess every image honestly before starting work.

We work with any photographic format that can be digitised, including black and white prints, colour prints, slides, transparencies, negatives, Polaroids, and printed photographs from any era or process. Early photographic formats such as daguerreotypes, tintypes, and albumen prints are restored from high-resolution scans of the original.

For best restoration results, scan photographs at a minimum of 600 DPI, or 1200 DPI and above for smaller prints that may need enlarging after restoration. Use the highest quality scan mode available, save as TIFF to preserve file quality, and handle originals with care. Fragile or brittle photos should never be pressed flat on a flatbed scanner.

Yes. We rebuild missing areas using the visual information available from the surrounding image. We match tones, textures, and content patterns to produce results that blend naturally with the original. For areas with significant detail, such as faces or distinctive background features, we may ask for your input before finalising the restoration.

Sure. Colourisation is available alongside restoration or as a standalone service. We apply historically accurate, contextually appropriate colour based on research into period clothing, location details, and available information about the subjects and setting, producing a result that is as historically credible as the reference information allows.

Simple restoration of a single image with minor damage is typically completed within one to two business days. Complex restoration of severely damaged images requiring significant reconstruction may take five to seven business days or longer, depending on the extent of the work. After our initial assessment, we'll give you a timeline based on the specific damage and complexity of your image.

Of course! Graphic Design Eye offers a free sample restoration on a small section of your photo so you can see the quality before committing. Just send your image through our contact form, and we'll send back a preview within a few hours, completely free with no obligation.

You can upload your images directly through our dashboard. For physical photos, we recommend scanning them at 600 DPI or higher before uploading. All submitted files are kept strictly confidential and never shared with third parties.

We know how much your photos mean to you, and we treat every image you send with care and complete confidentiality. Your original files are never shared, published, or used for anything other than completing your restoration order. All files are securely deleted from our servers after 30 days.

Graphic Design Eye offers unlimited free revisions until you're completely happy with the result. If the restored photo doesn't meet your expectations, just let us know what changes you'd like, and we'll take care of it right away at no extra cost. Your satisfaction comes first.
